Alyssa Hrisko, Seven Salon, Seattle, Washington

Alyssa Hrisko | Hair Stylist & Educator

July 19, 2016

When it comes to hair, Alyssa Hrisko is a natural. She officially started her career in beauty the summer before her senior year of high school. Alyssa has been doing weddings for 15 years, but has been a licensed hair stylist for 10. Even so, she's still utterly obsessed with her craft. Alyssa wouldn’t be caught dead without two things -- a stash of hot sauce and her favorite attire of all-black-all-the-time. Although, her wardrobe is rather neutral, her personality is unabashedly colorful, bubbly and high energy. I love having her on shoots because she makes everything so much more fun.

Tell us about your career.

A normal day in my life is spent coloring and cutting my clients at 7 Salon in Bellevue, mixed in with weddings and formats both onsite and off. When I'm not actually in the salon I've had the opportunities to teach for SEVEN Haircare which most recently has taken me down to California. Otherwise my time is spent focusing on the next big photoshoot or collaboration with other talented artists.

Tell us about yourself!

Born and raised West Seattle, a Washingtonian (we are a dying breed apparently), and I still love everything that is Washington. If I wasn't a hair stylist I would love, love to run my own food truck and feed people. I love to cook. And, in the summer and fall I grow my own vegetables with my mother, nothing better than grocery shopping in your own backyard! It's not uncommon to find me reading at minimum 3-4 books at time. I'm definitely that person that reads and walks. lol. The best part of where I live and what I do, is the chances and opportunities to give back and be conscious of the effect we have on others and our surroundings. At the end of the day, I love feeding my clients and friends and family -- whether that be through hair styles that make them feel as amazing as they are on the inside, cooking for friends and family or giving back in my community. It's what drives me to want to be the best every day so I can keep sharing what I love to do with others.

How did you get into the beauty industry and what do you love about it?

Typical stylist answer. I was the girl in high school who couldn't seem to understand why every updo had to look like a cross between Shirley temple and a ShihTzu puppy, and their had to be a better option. After finding out that I could actually do this as a living, I was like, “sign me up now right now please!!!”

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

Be humble and be open. Find someone in the industry who you respect, and ask them what they did and what they wish they had known going into it. Work harder than the boss and be open to saying yes to anything and everything in the beginning. You never know when that yes will set you on a future path that may not have been previously open to you. And, for heaven’s sake write thank you cards! Personal notes of appreciation is a lost art and makes a huge statement!

Words of Wisdom

Be the person your younger self needed. Know that any point someone you may not even notice is looking up to you or towards you for guidance and support. Give grace and have patience.

Is there anything else you feel led to share?

No one is going to set out your road map of your career, it's up to you to bust your buns to keep it moving forward. Don't panic if you detour a bit. Sometimes the best detours lead us to better destinations and goals.

Angie Hansen Stylist Seattle

Angie Hansen | Model + Product & Wardrobe Stylist

June 27, 2016

Meet Angie Hansen.

She's a multiethnic, shopping obsessed woman with a love for pho noodles. Growing up in a house hold of with four older brothers, Angie has a strong female presence that's is incredibly refreshing. Her sentences are statements, not suggestions. She holds her head high and doesn't second guess.

Angie has an amazing story of starting from the bottom and working her way up. Quite literally, she work on the floor doing retail for Kate Spade coordinating with corporate and styling their displays to appeal to the local shoppers. Now, Angie is a stylist for Amazon and Nordstrom -- and just so happens to model, too. Well, because she's gorgeous. Take a look at what she has to say.

Tell us about yourself!

I grew up in Bellevue, WA with 4 older brothers in a household ruled by sports. And even though I played competitive sports for almost twenty years, I was definitely not a tomboy! The childhood memories I do have are punctuated by fashion memories like throwing a tantrum at Nordstrom when I couldn't get red sparkly shoes, or how I would sneak into my mom's room to try on her heels. After college, I worked in the athletic industry for a few years before I decided to listen to that inner voice that always knew fashion is where my heart is. Eventually, I would love to be a fashion consultant and creative director for brands that align with my personal aesthetic. From here the sky is the limit!

What do you do as a stylist?

I spend the the majority of my time working at Amazon and Nordstrom's e-commerce studios. At Amazon, I prepare and style anything and everything you find on their website (from car parts to bedding to beauty and beyond!). When I'm at Studio N with Nordstrom, I work in the "On Figure" department where I help prepare the clothing for their product models. For freelance wardrobing shoots, I get to use my creative instincts to create looks for the client. My favorite thing is wardrobing photo shoots and seeing the models bring my looks to life!

How did you get into the Fashion industry and what do you love about it?

I got into fashion and beauty through dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. I loved the costumes and the sparkle and how they could transform me into a different version of myself. The freedom of expression and the fleeting nature of fashion intrigues me; every time you get dressed is a new opportunity to express a feeling or play a different character.

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion Industry?

You just have to start somewhere, and grow from there. Retail is a great way to get into the fashion and beauty industry and many employers look to see if you have put your time in on the retail floor. For e-commerce studio positions, don't be afraid to get your foot in the door any way you can even, if it isn't your first choice position. Once you're in, it's much easier to transition roles and you'll be even more well rounded!

#WOW | Words of Wisdom

I've always loved this quote by Coco Chanel, "Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman." Fashion isn't always about what you are wearing, it is the way clothes make you feel and make others feel around you. Tom Ford once said, that dressing well is a sign of respect and good manners to those around you (paraphrase). Use your clothes to let yourself shine! What we wear gives others a glimpse into our personality and a fuller picture of who we are.

Gloria Tran | Editor-in-Chief, Lookbook.nu

June 07, 2016

I LOVE THIS GIRL! There. I said it. Gloria is a bright ray of sunshine, unassuming, all-accepting bundle of awesomeness.  She travels and explores without hesitation. If asked, she'll travel anywhere at the drop of a hat. (That's not an exaggeration, I've seen her do it.) Gloria has a unique outlook on life that I find fascinating and reassuring. Where did I meet Gloria, you may ask? I met her at a Halloween party where I was ever-so-elegantly dressed like a cat. Way to make a first impression, right?

Apart from being a clearly amazing person, Gloria is also the Editor-in-Chief of the world renown fashion site, Lookbook.nu. Here's what she has to say:

Tell Us About Yourself!

I'm originally from Huntington Beach and now reside in Santa Monica, just a short walk from the beach. Not one to wander too far from the coast, I couldn't see myself living anywhere farther than a stone's throw away from the water. I love new experiences, traveling, meeting new people and learning as much as I can about them. Beauty and hope are a few of the elements of life that drive me and of which I believe this world can never have enough of. Whether through art, creativity, storytelling or shared experience, the seeking out of those things and sharing it with others, with the intention of touching people's hearts and possibly changing the world, is -- however challenging or arduous -- a journey worth taking.

How Did You Get Into The Fashion/Beauty Industry And What Do You Love About It?

I got into fashion because of my love for culture and the arts. For me, it's art on a human being and the fluidity of all of that fascinated me. Like culture, fashion is part of the sphere of influence that connects people to one another in an indirect, unspoken way. It's poetry in a world of prose. But speaking of prose, my first taste of the fashion world began when I did a paid internship for Nordstrom's BP Fashion Board my senior year of high school. I had attended one of their runway shows and was so impressed by their presentation that I sent in an application to work with them. It was already past the deadline so I decided to get creative and drew up a mock press release for them. It was my first job application ever and they hired me on the spot!

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

One of the first pieces of advice I received from someone was "Get in -- because once you're in, you're in," -- which is partially true. I wouldn't ever say someone is fully "in" a creative industry as there's rarely a time to rest on your laurels for too long, but there is something to be said about surrounding yourself with those that are farther along. Offering to buy coffee for those you admire or desire to learn more from, volunteering your services for a time to build up your reputation, demonstrating your creative skill on various social media outlets, or anything to "get into" the world of fashion (or whatever else it is that you want to do) will do wonders towards learning the ropes and gettin' that engine started.

#WOW | Words of Wisdom

Be humble, stay curious and love deeply. The world is a big place with an endless amount of things to learn about, grow towards, understand and have compassion for.

Lauren Shaw | Lifestyle Blogger and Brand Consultant

May 17, 2016

Lauren is a lover of simple timeless looks, gold accents, Henri Bendel Jewelry & Hand Bags, pencil skirts and bodycon dresses. She has no qualms with throwing down the big bucks for a nice face moisturizer, and never leaves the house without the essentials-- her tinted berry lip balm "A kiss of care & color" and Listerine strips.

Previously, Lauren was the Creative Director of a highly reviewed beauty brand which allowed her to grow and step outside her creative comfort zone. This led to some exciting new ventures, but even so she is excited to step in to a new chapter in her life.

Tell us about yourself:

Born and raised in Southern California... I come from a large and close family with Spanish/Mexican roots, full of entrepreneurs. My younger years were spent near Los Angeles, moved to Orange County for high school, Bay Area for College (communications). I am a city girl at heart... For now I split my time between LA/OC and am in the midst of venturing to the East Coast. There's just something about the career drive, style, and creativity that just inspires me on a whole other level!

I am a people connector - I love to connect friends and acquaintances that I know could help each other grow. I love to travel and try to explore every chance I get; Whether it's a weekend getaway to SF, a week in Chicago, or getting a stamp on my passport during a venture to Rome. Travel has recently become one of the top items on my to do list.

Each trip I'd take, I'd post images on my Instagram almost like a travel journal. So many people would tell me how much the loved seeing the pictures (they said it made them feel like they were on the trip with me) and it's one of the biggest reasons I decided to launch MissAuthentiCity.com.

Another top item on my to do list is service... I have learned more from serving others and giving back than any other life experience. Whether it be feeding the homeless of Los Angeles Skid Row, building small homes in Mexico, or just a local service day of helping other locals. I realize life wasn't intended for us to just work the time away at our desks, but instead to do something of meaning, purpose, and value that actually makes a difference is most fulfilling. I love all things creative... Acting, dancing, singing, modeling, photography (the list could go on and on;).

How did you get into the Fashion/Beauty Industry and what do you love about it?

The funny part is in High School I told my family I wanted to be a professional Makeup Artist. My mom laughed and told me I needed to go to a normal University instead. Fast forward ten years to my family launching a cosmetic brand (we chuckle at my moms comment now).

After college, I worked for a MedSpa and gained a lot of experience with the makeup lines we worked with at the time. From there I switched gears and ran an event planning business where my wedding & event blog really allowed my business to thrive. My sister worked in the makeup industry and I'd assist her from time to time.

Once she and my family launched their makeup line, I transitioned to working with them. Helping them grow their online presence and creative aspects. I worked a lot with beauty bloggers and celebrity makeup artists; learning tips, tricks, and trends. I will always be a part of the brand in spirit, but have shifted gears to focus on other creative opportunities. It's so wonderful that the knowledge I've learned from my past job titles somehow has become a stepping stone along the way and plays a role even in the future!

I love how beauty and style can really bring out inner confidence and help others stand a little taller. Makeup wise, I prefer a timeless sleek look with a subtle pop of color. Sometimes less is more on a day to day basis; makeup should compliment your natural beauty, not hide or distract from it. Don't be afraid to take some risks... Style wise I love solid pieces and a soft palette with bold accents you can change seasonally (black and white never go out of style... Pair it with one item that has a fun bold print to change it up every now and then)!

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

Take a good look at yourself, who you are, how you define yourself, and stick to you... Be authentic and remember that "you are your brand".

Once you have the education and skills, network the heck out of every opportunity you get! I can't stress it enough these days: the power of being social. Tag yourself and any brands used in social images, brands will surprisingly take notice. The more you support a brand (and they're a fan of your work), the more the brand will support you as a brand!

#WOW || Words of Wisdom

"Luck is preparation meeting opportunity." -Oprah Winfrey

The biggest thing I've learned from past job experiences and life in general is to stay true to your core values. Treat others with kindness and grace even when it's hard to; people will remember how you made them feel. No matter how successful you may become, remember we all started at the bottom at some point (a genuine humble attitude goes a long way). People prefer to work with nice people). Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, even if you're just starting out ("Fake it till you make it")!

As women, we have been blessed with many traits and skills. One of them is the power of multitasking, planning, and attention to detail. With all of those qualities giving us a head start... It's all the more reason we as woman need to lift up, support, and encourage other woman!!

Amy Holt | Model, Actress, Producer | Los Angeles

Amy Holt | Actress, Producer & Model

May 10, 2016

Meet Amy Holt: Amy is a an incredibly talented actor, model and a bright ray of sunshine. She isn't all about winning and stepping on people to rise to the top, but being the "rising tide that lifts all boats." She is encouraging and a ton of fun to hangout with. Amy is incredibly understanding and is one of the least judgmental people I know. Side Note: There were so many giggles exchanged in this photoshoot. I can't wait to do it all again!

Tell Us About Yourself!

I'm a Cali native and grew up in a small town outside of Los Angeles called Chino. I discovered my passion for acting at the age of six in local community theatre. I was obsessed with everything about it and loved the way I could be my goofy self and effect people. I attended an arts high school that nurtured and challenged my love of the arts called LACHSA.

I needed a job to pay for my pursuit of acting and started modeling to pay bills. I've made a living acting and modeling for 10+ years now and I can't imagine a day where I'm not expressing myself creatively. I'm passionate about people and I'm passionate about playing characters and relating to their often painful perspectives. It's been humbling being an artist because when you are trying to relate to a character you can't judge them no matter what that character's done. I've learned from playing other people, how much we all need love.

I've recently started producing my own content (sketches/tutorials/etc) on my YouTube Channel and I'm thrilled to be creating with so many talented artists on such a regular basis. Creating my YouTube channel has forced me to learn to write, edit, direct, and produce. My current goals include producing movies and content that I get to act in as well as doing some directing. Ultimately I'm passionate about people and I feel called to create with purpose and encourage and love on people both on and off screen.

How Did You Get Into The Fashion Industry And What Do You Love About It?

While I was attending a theatrical audition, I was scouted by a modeling manager who introduced me to my first modeling agent. The thing I love most about modeling is the traveling around the world I've gotten to do and meeting so many different people.

I'm obsessed with adventure and I'm grateful for the adventures modeling has provided for me. Some of the places I've worked include Paris, Italy, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica, and New York. I adore different cultures and seeing their different ways of living. I don't know if I ever would've known how much there is to love about this world if I hadn't started modeling.

What Is Your Advice For Someone Getting Into The Fashion Industry?

Be yourself and don't let people make you do things you are not comfortable doing. I love this business but it can be so powerful that it's easy to get sucked into the flow of it's demands. Be brave. Paddle upstream.

Remember with each new opportunity you have to ask yourself, "When I'm 90 years old will I be happy that I did this?" Try to enjoy the process, too. Whenever you get to where you think you want to be, you'll realize you have new goals and it will never fully satisfy. Enjoying the journey is essential.

Also, help and love the people around you. I remember when I decided "Instead of competing with those around me, I'm just going to embrace them and encourage them and love them, too." That was the best decision I ever made and it's only bred more opportunity for us all.

#Wow | Words Of Wisdom

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Shelly Willis - Commercial Hair and Makeup Artist

Shelly Willis | Commercial Hair and Makeup Artist

May 03, 2016

Shelly Willis is a hair stylist and makeup artist working in the film, print and commercial industries. She's one of the industries best and brightest. And, although she works with some of the biggest names in the industry -- Apple, Pandora, Chrissy Teagan, MTV, and even David Hasselhoff -- she doesn't let that get in the way of being a humble, kind, and generous human being.

Tell us about yourself.

I started out as a shy, quiet girl from Texas, raised by a single mother who encouraged my ever-growing love affair of art and the diversity of culture.  I was fortunate that she made traveling around the world possible.  It was through those experiences that I recognized a desire to connect with people through art, but I didn’t quite know how.  Over the years, I tried countless avenues in an attempt to find my own self expression.  Some of these were a success and others were total failures.  This process eventually led me to the world of makeup and hairstyling.  Something that fuels the passion my mother originally exposed me to, an art form that varies from culture to culture.

How did you get into the Fashion/Beauty Industry and what do you love about it?

Initially I began working as a special effects makeup artist for film; however, I quickly noticed people don’t necessarily feel good about themselves when covered in fake blood or prosthetics.  Sitting in my chair wasn’t particularly comfortable for them. I wanted to contribute more positively to their experience, so naturally I gravitated away from zombies and headed towards the beauty side of the craft.

When someone sits in the chair of a professional stylist, they often judge themselves and begin to point out flaws. This is an intimate space and a place of examination.  I take pride in creating a place free from judgment and helping my clients feel good about themselves.  I’ve been able to find joy in expressing myself while empowering others. The best feeling is when that person leaves my chair a little bit taller.  When they walk away looking and feeling incredible, we’re both winning.

I also love the unpredictability of this job.  Not knowing what I’ll be creating or who I’ll be working with next.  I’ve had a blast working with Glass Animals among the Joshua trees in the desert, with Chrissy Teigen and Jamie Chung on the beaches of Mexico, and even got to shoot guns with Navy Seals during a down day of filming. There was a moment in time when I was cutting Travis Pastrana’s hair as a car literally jumped between us and the sunset on the set of a Dodge commercial.  These are the moments I pinch myself.  I’ve hung out with Landon Donovan on a soccer field, watched David Hasselhoff light up a room with his boundless energy, and even worked on set with Roman Coppola as he directed Melissa McCarthy for an Old Navy commercial.  The adventures seem endless.

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

I suppose my advice would be to try and stay positive when you’re struggling.  Don’t be too hard on yourself, or as my mom would say "don't sweat the small stuff".  Making mistakes along the way ensures your growth.  Nothing will ever be perfect… and if it is, it’s boring.

Jen Pinkston | The Effortless Chic

April 26, 2016

Jen Pinkston | Lifestyle Blogger + Wardrobe Stylist

Tell us about yourself!

I'm from Austin, TX but have been living in Los Angeles for the last 10 years now-- crazy! Something that I have seen across the spectrum of people in creative industries is that their passion for style can transcend even the specific industry that they're in. Interior designers often times have great fashion sense, musicians usually have the coolest art in their homes, and many actors have the chicest homes thanks to their own great design aesthetic. I have always had an interest in style and fashion, but if I wasn't doing this I think I would be a pastry chef or an interior designer or a boutique owner! That's one of the reasons blogging has been such a great fit is that I get to explore all of those varied interests. My hope through my work and through my site, TheEffortlessChic.com is to debunk the myth that their are stylish people and unstylish people and encourage everyone to have confidence in their own unique personal style.

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

Explore every opportunity. Say yes to everything. Go above and beyond. Always look for ways to exceed expectations. Push yourselves to take risks and to make the cold call or the cold email and pursue what you want. Be open to change though if it turns out what you thought you wanted isn't actually what you want or if other opportunities present themselves.

#WOW | Words of Wisdom

No matter what industry you're in, take time to get to know yourself and your preferences. Having a strong sense of personal style and aesthetic leads to a strong personal brand. People want to hire strong brands because they know what they're going to get from them. Be unapologetically YOU, always.

Shae Wilber | Beauty Expert

Shae Wilbur | TV Host & Beauty Expert

April 12, 2016

Tell us about yourself!

Iiiiiiiiin West Philadelphia born and raised - really I was! :) - I grew up in a very musical household and for as long as I can remember I had a passion not only for music but for connecting with people. Fast forward to 2009, I auditioned for American Idol Season 8, made it to Hollywood, and that's where my love affair with TV began. 7 years later I'm living here in LA with my hubby (of 10 years), and working as a TV host with weekly segments on EXTRA, appearances on The Wendy Show, HLN and more. My purpose in life is NOT my job, it's not directly connected to WHAT I do... my purpose in life is to love people, and reflect God's love to whomever I meet. Yes I'd love to host my own show one day, yes I'd love to tour the world with my music some more, yes I'd love to be a mom soon, but all of those things are secondary to my number 1 focus which is loving God & loving people.

How did you get into the Fashion/Beauty Industry and what do you love about it?

Fashion and beauty is something - on a professional level - I just kind of fell into. I've always loved "girly things" since I was a kid. I remember my first trip to the makeup store I came home with blue eyeliner, powder that was 5 shades too dark for me, and GLITTER! Remember that gel glitter that was all the rage back in the late 90s? Yep. I was obsessed with it. Anyway from there, being involved in the Entertainment Industry, first with my music and then with my TV career, I just really always enjoyed the fashion and beauty side of things. I'm not a licensed makeup artist, I didn't go to school for makeup, but have been a part of photo shoots and TV shows for over 10 years, I've been exposed to the BEST of the industry and my thing has always been to take what all the pros are doing and learn how to do it myself. Ya know? If THEY can do it, why can't I? -That's what led me to start doing YouTube videos. I get e-mails and comments ALL THE TIME from girls wanting to know how I did my hair when they saw me on EXTRA, or what lipgloss I used, so YouTube is my way to connect directly to those girls, to answer their questions and show them exactly how they can achieve the exact same thing! :) How did I begin my professional career in the beauty industry? I started working for a FOX affiliate in Florida as their Fashion/Beauty/Pop Culture correspondent and it all snowballed from there. Figure out your angle and go for it. Start with a blog, an instagram account, a youtube channel - just start it - be consistent - be yourself - and it will grow from there.

#WOW | Words of Wisdom

God has given every single person on Earth different gifts, a UNIQUE calling in life - something that NO ONE ELSE on the planet can do... something personal to YOU. So don't get bogged down thinking "I need to look like her," or "I should blog more like this..." or "Wow her YouTube looks so much better than mine." - just be YOU, and people will connect to your authenticity. You were created "for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14).

Tell us about yourself!

I have a huge array of passions which often gets me overwhelmed! I had a career in music before making my way to photography, and I'm always taking on new projects in a wide variety of fields. Beyond my creative pursuits, I am passionate about social justice, which has led me to various organizations. I am currently in the process of becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Foster Children) and working with the homeless population in Los Angeles. I am an animal lover, and my world revolves around my puppy girl, Penny Lane.

How did you get into the Fashion/Beauty Industry and what do you love about it?

I have been connected to the beauty industry through friends for years and was always taking pictures. But, the transition to my current career happened, when I was living in Japan and couldn't help but want to capture everything I experienced. Specializing in beauty came through a collaborative process with a celebrity make up artist friend who suggested I give it a try. I fell in love with the details of beauty photography.

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

Ask! I passed on many opportunities to get involved in the industry because I was too shy to ask. Once I started opening my mouth, the doors opened as well.

Jessica Hoffman | TV Beauty Expert, Celebrity Hair + Makeup Artist, Writer & Speaker

About Jessica:

I'm Jessica; born and raised in Orange County, CA. I've traveled this beautiful world for a good portion of my life, having lived in Tokyo for almost a year, Hawaii for eight years, and NYC for two! I'm settled back in CA, living + working between OC + LA, but I'll never stop exploring the globe! Two of the most beloved places I've ever been to would have to be Italy + Israel!

I'm most passionate about using my life to share truth + beauty with the world around me! I'm honestly just so in love with this life + with humanity, and I know it's directly tied to the love I have for Jesus, which grows every single day! The older I get, the younger I feel, and that freedom is priceless! When your vertical relationship is a healthy one, your horizontal relationships will thrive as well!

How Did You Get Into The Fashion/Beauty Industry And What Do You Love About It?

I followed my lil girl dream of becoming a Makeup Artist + never stopped pressing in. I've been at it (professionally) for 19 years, and I'm still completely intrigued + fascinated by the art of makeup!

As women working in the Fashion + Beauty Industry, we have a global audience, and if the whole world is watching, we should care very much about what it is we're saying. My heart is to make sure our message is one that's filled with integrity, joy + the truth about real beauty.

Lasting, authentic beauty is not applied; rather, it's unveiled. God placed the gift of beauty in your soul the day you were created, and it's our responsibility as women to grow + protect that beauty.

What Is Your Advice For Someone Getting Into The Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

Do not compare yourself to others!  Realize your self worth, stand firm in your faith, feed your creativity, grow your love for humanity, serve others well, and find out what it is you're here on earth to do, and do it with all your heart + soul.

#WOW (Words Of Wisdom):

Be intentional with what you read + who you surround yourself with... these details make up the big picture of your life!

My favorite + most effective Beauty Tip Ever: Read the Bible Daily.

Alecia Lindsay | Fashion Photographer

March 15, 2016

I'm kicking off a new photos series of experts in the beauty and fashion industries! So today, I'll be introducing myself to get us started.

Alecia Lindsay | Fashion Photographer

About Alecia:

I’m a 20-something, Alaskan born lady, who has recently graduated with a degree in Studio Art from Whitman College. I’m married to the most handsome and wonderful man in the world. And for now, the only baby we have is our cat named Stumps (whom I lovingly call my “replacement cat” after our last one had ran away.)

I love Jesus and some of my guilty pleasures include Pinterest, ice cream (only chocolate… ever), clothing hoarding and collecting tiny boxes.

My passion is to create beauty and to inspire others to take a leap of faith and follow their dreams.

How did you get into the Fashion/Beauty Industry and what do you love about it?

My journey into the fashion industry was completely unintentional. I stumbled upon photography while choosing my major in college. I had previously had little to no interest in photography, and I didn’t understand why people liked it so much.

It wasn’t until I started to photograph people that I really fell in love. From there, I tried to take photos of people in all contexts — weddings, engagements, portraits — and I slowly made my way toward fashion. If someone had told me in high school that I was going to be a fashion photographer, I probably would have laughed in disbelief.

I absolutely love working with my team to create images and seeing our ideas come to life.

What is your advice for someone getting into the Fashion/ Beauty Industry?

My best pieces of advice to people getting in the industry would be:

1) NEVER try to fit in.

2) Do your research.

3) Start before you’re ready! There will never a be a more perfect time than now. So, get out there and make it happen.

4) Have fun!

#WOW (Words of Wisdom):

Don’t search for people’s approval when you’re doing something out of the ordinary. Keep your eyes on the prize.

I'll be posting a new interview every Tuesday.
